A Gathering Place

The Our Farms, Our Future conference is an incredible opportunity to join with many key stakeholders in the sustainable agriculture community. Participants will engage in important dialogue about the trajectory of sustainable agriculture for the next 30 years. Engaging panels, technical and issue-oriented breakout sessions, art and storytelling opportunities, long networking breaks, poster sessions, exhibitor booths and farm tours will all contribute to creating an unforgettable experience. The schedule included below provides a basic overview of the conference proceedings.

Monday, April 2nd

9:00 AM       Envisioning the Next 30 Years of Sustainable Agriculture: A Conversation with USDA Leaders

The first of three plenary panel sessions. Speakers include: Kathleen Merrigan (George Washington University, Deputy Secretary of the USDA from 2009-2013); Krysta Harden (DuPont, Deputy Secretary of the USDA from 2013-2016); Steve Censky (Deputy Secretary of the USDA, Invited)

10:00 AM     Networking break, posters and exhibits on display

10:30 AM     Breakout session #1 (choice of 8 breakout sessions)

Noon              Lunch

1:00 PM        Breakout session #2 (choice of 8 breakout sessions)

2:30 PM        Networking break, posters and exhibits on display (90-minutes)

2:45 PM        Special sessions on farm policy and graduate student research (networking break is still in effect)

60-minute Food and Farm Policy Discussion with Ferd Hoefner and the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC)

Sustainability in 180 Seconds – a unique event featuring lightning round presentations by SARE Graduate Student Grant recipients about their projects

4:00 PM        Breakout session #3 (choice of breakout sessions)

7:00 PM        Two film screenings and panel discussions – films and details to be announced shortly!

Wednesday, April 4th

2:30 PM         Networking break, posters and exhibits on display (90-minutes)

Thursday, April 5th

Farm tours are offered this day, with most tours leaving the hotel at 8:00 AM. The tours will be a variety of lengths, with some arriving back at the hotel by noon and others arriving by 4:30 pm.
