About the tour
From pastured poultry to an innovative food hub, this tour is for anyone seeking to learn more about locally raised livestock. The first stop, Benne’s Best Meat, will feature a family run business that “runs on a reputation” for humane animal products. At Benne’s Best, Ron and Jolene have worked together for 25 years to raise cattle, hogs, chicken and eggs on pasture. They’ll show participants their on-farm store and discuss why this is their market outlet of choice.
Next, participants will meet Todd Geisert at his farm in Washington, Missouri, located near the Missouri River. Todd took over his family’s hog production in 2007 and is well known for his pastured hog systems. Todd turned big dreams into a reality with the construction of the Farm to You Market, a food hub next to the farm. Here participants will enjoy lunch and discussion about Todd’s future plans for this local food business.
Lastly, participants will journey to Fresh Pasture Farms, a 60 acre family-owned farm offering local access to pasture-raised poultry, eggs, pork and 100% grass-fed and finished beef, located 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis. Fresh Pasture is proud to offer wholesome, nutritious foods through their direct-marketing on-farm store. Their farming practices include multi-species rotational grazing with no commercial fertilizers or chemicals used on their land or livestock.
